PMI issue

I purchased my home over a year ago 14 months to be exact. At settlement I paid my PMI off out right. It has come to my attention that the PMI was never paid. My orignal loan was sold to a goverment morgage company because it was a CDA loan. Now the company sold it back due to the PMI not being paid. I was advised that at this point that the PMI certificate can not be issued again. Am I intilled to recieve the money I paid for the PMI or can that now try to pay the PMI OFf? Excellent credit score by me and my spouse as well as excellent payment history for the 14 months. Any advise will be helpful
