Sex Crimes, Sex Offenders Please help, I need advice.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but if not, I figure someone could point me in the right direction.

I am 17 Years old. Born in June of '93.

Over the past few months I have been chatting with a 14 year old girl from New Jersey.

We video chatted, and IM'd.

Sexual things were talked about, and she was doing stuff on webcam every now and again.

I swear on the bible that at least 96% of the time we were on cam, I was just talking to her while IMing people on facebook.

Recently, her parents gave her computer to the police.

I'm not sure what they are trying to charge me with, though.

They told the police up there that I am 21, when I have a birth certificate/ID/ect. to prove I'm still a Minor.

She sent 'pictures' but I didn't download them. I opened the Email to see what it was, but never downloaded them.

If this goes to court, what do you think I'm looking at legal-wise?

If you are charged, speak ONLY to your attorney.

I cannot emphasize this enough.

Worst case scenario is that you could face jail and registering for life as a sex offender.

However, there is nothing you can do unless and until you're actually charged with something.

And STOP having explicit chats with CHILDREN. NOT cool, okay?

I was just asking. I'm pretty worried about it.

The investigator and the officer who came to visit me and talk about it yesterday laughed almost the entire time.

This is my first 'Run In' with the law.

I talked to my Government teacher because he's big on Law, and I talked to the Resource Officer at my school.

They both said that since we're both minors, that they're not really sure what would go down.

Any other information would be great, though.

Dude - you could be found guilty of possessing child pornography at the very least. Do you have ANY clue how serious that is?

But also,

If the files are in my email, which I've never registered an email to my SPECIFIC name,

and they're NOT opened,

What then?

This is complete and utter CRAP.

It's not a parenting issue - AT ALL.

And you know what else, OP? Even after you turn 18 - you can STILL be prosecuted.

A 17 year old in possession of child pornography is NOT going to get a free pass just because s/he is 17.

Now ruru, please come back and give us statute or case-law to back up YOUR stance.

After reviewing ruru's location and IP address, I reached the conclusion that not only is she a troll, but also an incipient spammer. Therefore, ruru is gone and will not be back.
 
What the heck? I ask for advice and instead of you doing as I ask, you get an attitude because someone doesn't know what their talking about? It makes no sense.

Since I don't know what I'm talking about, enlighten me. That's what I came here for. Not to be judged due to my knowledge.
