Pets Pet and Dog Odor and Barking, Noise

My downstairs neighbor has 2 dogs as pets. They are cute but are about five times as loud as they appear. They bark every time someone passes by their apartment in the hallway. They also run around the apartment, dog chasing dog. I know because I can hear it through the floor. What can I do to make the neighbor take care of the problem? I understand that you can't talk to the dog and tell it to stay quieter. But it shouldn't be my problem. I pay my rent on time and it is their responsibility.

I assume dogs are allowed in your apt. bldg. & you knew this when you moved in. However, you should be entitled to "quiet enjoyment" of your apt. Have you talked to the neighbor or your LL?

It's a little bit of a problem. I think that the building is coop and each person owns their own apartment. So the landlord is the owner of my apartment but not the owner of the apartment that is creating all the dog barking noise. And yes, pets are allowed in the building, of course!
