I was wondering how it would be possible to link someone to a patent or an invention that they made, but deny ownership of. Wouldn't it have to be written somewhere in a public domain?
Patents are registered at the U.S. PTO - Patent and Trademark Organization. You can search the database there as well. This doesn't mean that someone else may be listed as the owner of a patent even though there is an inventor. This is typically the situation when someone invents something while being a paid employee of a company.
Public domain is something different. You might mean that the information must be publicly listed. Feel free to search the database.
