I have been trying to pay off a dept. store credit card.I got behind at one point and with the interest and penlities have not been able to get in paid.I have paid more than the borrowed amt.I wrote paid in full on the last check and they cashed it. Does this clear me now of oweing any more seeinbg that they cashed the check that said it was paid full?

I would doubt that you could so easily dispose of a debt in the manner suggested. What you are talking about is typically where there is a bona fide dispute and the parties have negotiated a settlement. There was no dispute or negotiation here with regard to what was owed and for all they know, it is your own mental note and not directed at them. If this were valid there would be millions of people doing the same in an attempt to scam merchants by these claims.
