After working for my company for 4 years, they ran a additional BG check that extend 20 years due to changes in job duties. I had a conviction that showed up from 19 years ago along with other stuff I was able to dispute with court info proving identity theft. Our In- house security team wanted to have a interview with me in regards to the BC Check, no problem but he showed up with several pages of Internet searches and mug shots of people with my name, which is very common. My question is: Was it illegal for him to pull that information for interviewing purpose being that I only signed and agreed to the third party company to due a BG check?

Agree, not illegal if it was an "in house" background check.

You said in your first post you signed & agreed to a third party check. If they did any additional checking themselves (in house), it was not illegal. Did you lose your job or suffer any adverse action because of the findings?
