MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) An armed man who held McLennan County deputies at bay Tuesday after Child Protective Services workers removed his children from a home in a rural neighborhood north of Waco was taken to a local hospital after a deputy shot him as he pulled a gun from his pants.

The standoff started Tuesday morning at home on Gerald Lane south of Leroy after deputies responded to a report of a man with a gun.

After they arrived, authorities say, the 43-year-old Elm Mott man walked out of the house and pointed a gun in their direction.

Deputies blocked off Gerald Lane and advised nearby residents to shelter in place.

Two women were on the property as well and were hiding from the man when deputies arrived.

They weren't injured.

Deputies fired bean bags in an attempt to get the man under control, and a sniper shot him in the side as he pulled out the gun at around 1:30 p.m.

The man remained combative even after he was shot and two deputies accompanied him in the ambulance as paramedics transported him to the hospital.

Information about his condition wasn't immediately available.

UPDATE: Standoff suspect pulls a gun, deputy shoots him

That's a tough job, especially in the south where guns are legal and more accessible. Here in NYC some certainly do have them but stand-offs like these aren't as common. Gives me a great deal of respect and gratitude for law enforcement and glad to see that no one was hurt and hopefully some children were saved from even more potential mistreatment / abuse.
