Now attorney wants money

I had a business situation that required me to hire an attorney.

At the end of my initial meeting with the first attorney, I asked him how much I should pay & how much this would cost. His response was "We won't worry about it until I get you your money."

I had to fire that attorney. His lack of knowledge on commercial contract law almost kept me from being able to file a lien, which is they only way my company managed to get paid for the contract.

Now, after the new law firm managed to get things resolved and my company paid, the first attorney sends me a bill. There is no account for the hours or services, just a paper with an amount due.

Is this legit? Do I have to pay him since he never got me any of the money owed?

I would ask for a mediation from your state bar's client grievance committee (or whatever it is called) that handles fee disputes.
