Notice of Forfeiture

My father has recently passed away.

He was operating a retail business from leased premises for which the lease has lapsed and he was on a rolling contract.

during his illness he was unable to pay the rent, the landlord has issued a notice of forfeiture. We did not receive any notification and a notice was placed on the premises to collect the goods which we did not see.

We have only been made aware now however the landlord is not willing to return the good. what are our rights?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was curious so I looked it up. Distraint for rent is apparently legal for commercial rentals in the UK.
