I received a ticket and didn't pay it. A warrent was issued. I have called the court and asked them what I owe. They gave me an amout and said it is required that I show in person and see the judge.
I told them I would be more than happy to pay the amount plus any fees accrued and they said "I must" go to court even though I just want to pay the fee.

Besides the point but this towns economy is based on tickets and has this rule so that people have to show up and support their economy. ie.. gas food etc. This town is in the middle of nowhere and is 3 hours from where I reside.

Do they have the right to require everyone to physically show up in their town?

Thank you

ps. This info about the town/economy was told to me by the woman who takes the calls from the number on the ticket.

Yes they can require an appearance. Either hire an attorney or show and next time don't ignore the ticket. Judges don't like that.
