I have 2 questions, actually. First, my boyfriend lost a court case, and was ordered to pay damages relating to an auto accident he was in a few years back. We have received no notification as to what he has to pay. The case was over in December of 2006, and we are not sure who to even contact to get any information. Any help?

Second, we are hoping to get married, but we are concerned that if we do, they may try to get compensation from me as well. I am in the process of buying a house, and with my name only on the title, would they be able to try to take the house to recoup what he owes? Would they look at our collective assets if we were married, as opposed to just what he has in his account? Any information would be INCREDIBLY helpful. Thanks!!!

A: Go to the courthouse and get a certified copy of the judgment.

A: Keep his name off any assets. Also, if he hasn't been notified so already, he will have his driver's license revoked till he pays the judgment. Looks like you may have to support this guy for a long time. Good luck.:angel

No one told us anything about revoking a driver's license. Does that happen in every case? He needs to be able to get to work, and we really don't have a chance of being able to pay this off quickly, being that we both have relatively low-paying jobs. I had no idea that could happen.
