I've been a new home owner for about 5 months. There was some water leakage on the basement ceiling tile, so the upstairs bathtub walls were removed. The wood that forms the side of the house is completely rotted away due to moisture leaking from the shower. This problem has been going on for probably 20 years. This rot/black mold and mildew is in a 4' x 3' square.
In other words, if I didn't have vinyl siding on the house, there would be a hole in the side of my house due to this rot.
Can the previous owners be liable or at least help me pay some of the costs? Thanks.
