I just bought an attached house in Queens New York and needed renovation. My neighbor claimed that my debris/rubbish container which was resting on 1/4 of her cement slab has caused a crack and has sunken the edge. She wants us to replace the cement slab or repair it. The driver of the container company has to park a little over their slab because of the tight/sloppy space. My contractor believes that the crack is an existing one and not due to the container. The rubbish container has to be parked at the back of the house. It's a common driveway where sanitation trucks go by biweekly. I saw other big trucks go by the same way when there's renovation goes on in my block. My neighbor's husband saw us the other day and yelled at us to have the cement slab fixed. In his threatening voice. he said his wife is in legal field and they will take legal actions. This has been going on for almost 2 months. My neighbor doesn't want to accept that the container
did not cause any damages to her old cement slab. Is there an expert who could really tell if we did indeed damage the slab or perhaps my neighbor just want to take advantage of us. Please help. I feel that
they are harassing us and the contractor. Is it worth it fixing the cement slab out of being a good new neighbor and peace? Or will they take advantage of us more and give us more problems , like how the slab was fixed?
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.
