got into money troubles and thought selling gift cards from my job would help me out.
credited [apparently] $2400 of gift cards, and didnt pay for them.
our system is so flimsy that if you hit an extra 1, you would have $21.00 instead of $20.
it automatically loads each card once you swipe it and enter a number. even if you dont tender the amount out.

talked with the loss prevention people for close to 2 hours two, filled out a statement and signed all the paper work.

was suspended from work [odd] until further notice.
which would be tomorrow before 3pm my time.

sold these gift cards and everything was fine till the "customers" got them, and they were unusable gift cards.

a family member whos a lawyer says judging off of the fact that i was honest and straight forward, there should be no reason for jail time.
very scared and frightened and disappointed in myself.
i told the company i was sorry, and signed a paper saying i would pay it back by the end of July.
also told the company i would do anything including community service to help the situation.

input??

need advice on what you all think will happen, and how to take care of the situation
i have nothing else on my record and have never done anything like this before

-thanks

also, the company wants me to pay back $2400
when the people i sold the cards to didnt spend anything. and i only spent less than $500 maybe out of the cards i had.

You sold $2400.00 worth of gift cards? How much (since you used some) was total value of all gift cards you falsely issued and how many of them were used at what dollar value?

none of the ones that were sold were used, because the company found them and killed them.

the ones that were used, i want to say up to $500 maybe less

thats what i thought....
im in arizona, btw. dont know if that changes anything.
they still have two more hours to call me and i havent heard a thing.

should i call the gentleman who called me and speak to him?

oh :/
im just so nervous.
are police going to come to my door?
are they going to prosecute?
i hate sitting in the dark not knowing whats going on.....

what does it sound like to you?

okay just received the phone call and spoke to my attorney.
phone call said i was fired and id be reviving all my paper work and final check in the mail soon.

they said nothing about prosecution or anything.

attorney said it was weird if they havent called the cops yet and would be surprised if they didnt.
where do i go from here?

was advised to not pay the company back until i get all the paper work in and find out if im going to be going to the police station or anything

This site is not in the habit of advising posters against their Attorneys advice. If your Attorney advised you to hold payment then hold payment he must have a reason

I think I know the company that you used to work for. Due to the fact that you cooperated and there was no inventory loss to the store (you essentially stole from the customers - so they would be the ones to press charges) I am fairly certain that you will not get prosecuted.

Keep in mind that the company is out the money you took from the customers as they most likely reimbursed them. Did they give you a payment envelope or ask you to work out payment arrangements in the store? If so, work with them to get this paid off as they will have a year or so to change their mind and press charges.
