TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A search is planned Saturday for a Temple man and woman who've been missing for a week.

Michael Swearingin, 32, and Jenna Scott, 28, were last heard from at 3 a.m. on Jan. 4.

"We have to find them now, if they are still alive, we have to find them now," Scott's father, Jonathan Scott, said Friday.

"Please help us, help us look for them, the most important thing is to find them."

"If they are still alive, we have to find them now," he said.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hawkeye Shooting Academy at 119 North 19th St. in Temple.

Those who plan to search should wear boots and bring gloves.

Those who want to help post flyers should bring staple guns and tape, organizers said.

Swearingin's phone was last used on Jan. 4 in Austin, but his mother, Deborah Daniel Harrison, does not believe it was her son who was using it.

"I last talked to Michael Thursday afternoon and the text that have been received on early Friday morning, I'm not sure if that was Michael and Jenna even texting," Harrison said.

When she went by his home, she suspected foul play after finding the surveillance video missing and his dog locked up.

"Jaxx never stays in the crate unless Michael goes to the store or has to a meeting at work or something usually Jaxx sleeps in a bed in Michael's room," Harrison said.

Harrison says Swearingin was in a committed relationship at the time of his disappearance.

"When he comes back, Rachel is ready to get married she told me last night," Harrison said.

The gray Hyundai Genesis in which the two were last seen was found last weekend in Austin.

Temple police confirm that a man arrested by Grand Rapids Police Tuesday in Kent County, Mich., on burglary charges out of Temple was Scott's ex-boyfriend.

Cedric Marks, 44, will be returned to Central Texas to face the burglary charge, authorities said.

He was named in a protective order issued in September 2018.

Police have not identified Marks as a suspect or person of interest in their investigation of the disappearance.

Once the Texas rangers got involved, I suspected the perpetrator had managed to escape (temporarily) the long arm of the law.

I predict the mope arrested in Michigan (and soon to be back in the Republic of Texas) will be named the perp.

On Friday, January 11, 2019, the OSBI was requested to assist Temple Police Department (TX) investigators. Investigative information led investigators to rural Okfuskee County, where a homicide investigation is underway. The identity of the victim(s) and cause(s) and manner(s) of death will be determined at autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The OSBI continues to assist Temple Police Department in this active investigation. All media inquiries and questions should be directed to the Temple Police Department.

Police in Minnesota confirmed Tuesday they're reopening their investigation of the 2009 disappearance of a woman linked to the ex-boyfriend of a missing Temple woman and her male friend.

Jenna Scott, 28, and her friend Michael Swearingin, 32, were last heard from at 3 a.m. on Jan. 4.

Cedric Marks, 44, was arrested on Jan. 8 in Kent County, Mich., on the Temple burglary warrant.

He was named in a protective order sought by Scott that was issued in September 2018.

Temple police confirmed Marks was Scott's ex-boyfriend, but they have not identified Marks as a suspect or person of interest in their investigation of the disappearance of Scott and Swearingin.

But police in Bloomington, Minn., say he will be looked at in connection with the March 17, 2009 disappearance of another former girlfriend, April Pease.

"We will be reopening the case of April Pease and we'll be looking at Marks," Bloomington police Sgt. Jeff Ratzloff told KWTX Tuesday.

Records show that Pease and Marks had been in a bitter child custody dispute for months before she disappeared.

Court records obtained by KWTX show Pease, who was from Washington State, had a child with Marks.

She fled to Bloomington for her safety according to court statements, but was dealing with a long term drug problem.

When she failed to show up for a court appearance on the child custody issue on March 20, 2009—three days after she disappeared--Marks wrote in a statement to the judge, "She's probably relapsed into drug activity."

Marks was awarded custody of the child.

Pease has never been found.

Marks' name came up in the investigation of the disappearance, but at the time he wasn't considered a suspect, police said.

"Marks has terrorized and hurt our family for several years now. We are not surprised that he may be involved in the disappearance of a former girlfriend in Minnesota," Scott's father, Jonathan Scott, said Tuesday.

Marks won't fight his return to the state after his arrest in Michigan on an outstanding local burglary warrant.

Marks waived extradition, Bell County District Attorney Henry Garza said Monday, and "will be returned to Bell County in the immediate future."

"The investigation by the Temple Police Department and other authorities into the search for Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin is active, fluid and continues," Garza said.

Meanwhile a source with knowledge of the case says Texas Rangers have joined the investigation of the disappearance of the two.

Volunteers searched for the pair unsuccessfully on Saturday.

Oklahoma Investigators: Homicide investigation underway connected to Temple case

Police report the discovery of two bodies in Oklahoma and confirm the bodies are the two missing Temple residents.

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Authorities recovered two bodies Tuesday in rural Okfusee County, Okla., in the search for a missing Temple man and woman, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed.

"The preliminary investigation leads detectives to believe that the bodies recovered are that of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin," Temple police said in a late afternoon press update.

"The Scott and Swearingin families have been notified of this preliminary identification."

Scott, 28, and her friend Swearingin, 32, were last heard from at 3 a.m. on Jan. 4.

The remains were recovered from a clandestine grave after Oklahoma investigators went to the property at the request of Temple police, who are investigating the disappearance of the two Temple residents.

"Investigative information led investigators to rural Okfuskee County, where a homicide investigation is underway," the OSBI said in a press release.

"The identity of the victim(s) and cause(s) and manner(s) of death will be determined at autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," the bureau said.

"The OSBI continues to assist Temple Police Department in this active investigation."

Texas Rangers were in Oklahoma, assisting with the investigation.

MUSKEGON, Mich. (KWTX) Two women linked to Cedric Marks, 44, the man at the center of the investigation of the disappearance and deaths of two Temple residents remain jailed after court appearances Wednesday in Muskegon, Mich.

Authorities found what they believe to be the bodies of Jenna Scott, 28, and her friend Michael Swearingin, 32, Tuesday in rural Okfusee County, Okla.,

Marks, whom police identified as Scott's ex-boyfriend, was arrested on Jan. 8 in Kent County, Mich., on a Temple burglary warrant stemming from a break-in on Aug. 21, 2018 at Scott's home.

Temple police have not identified him as a person of interest or suspect in Scott's and Swearingin's disappearance and deaths.

Scott and Swearingin, who were longtime friends, were last heard from at 3 a.m. on Jan. 4 and were last known to be together at Swearingin's home in Temple.

Swearingin's 2016 Hyundai Genesis was missing from the residence, but was found on Jan. 5 in Austin.

Maya Renee Maxwell, 26, who was arrested on Jan. 11 in Muskegon on a Bell County warrant charging tampering with evidence, admitted that "she was involved with leaving Swearingin's vehicle in Austin in hopes to conceal it from law enforcement, a warrant affidavit released Wednesday says.

She appeared in court Wednesday morning.

She waived extradition and will be returned to Bell County to face the charge within the next 10 days, Matt Roberts, the chief trial attorney with the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office, said Wednesday.

Maxwell is believed to have traveled with Marks to Michigan.

Marks wife, Ginell McDonough, 37, who was also arrested on Jan. 11 in Muskegon, was arraigned Wednesday morning on a charge of harboring a fugitive and was ordered held in lieu of $75,000 bond,

She's accused of harboring Marks, Roberts said.
