Hello I live in New Jersey and my husband and I rent, our lease is up on Dec. 15 and we gave our land lord notice that we might not renew the lease in Dec. He now wants to show the townhouse, which is fine but we asked him for a 24 hour notice and for us to be home when he is showing the property. However he want to enter our home when we are not at home is the allowed and do we have to let him show the house at all while we are still there and our rent for this month is paid?

Read your lease. Most likely the lease permits him to show the home. Read your lease, and even if it doesn't, what choice do you have?

By the time a court hears your concerns, December 15th will have come and gone. The point is moot, so work it out.

"might not renew the lease" means nothing legally.

Either tell the landlord you wish to renew your lease or that you will not.

He is assuming you will not (and from your vague notice he has every right to assume this) and is beginning the process of finding replacement tenants when your lease ends.
