My son just graduated from college and is leaving for an internship in Europe. The lease on the apartment expires June 8. I know we are responsible for the rent and utilities until then. We have cleaned and left the keys with the office. I expected them to do an immediate inspection, but was informed today that they won't do the inspection until June 8. Is that proper?

The LL appears to be honoring the lease.
Until COB on 8 June, your son is the leaseholder.
The LL is respecting he rights.
If he's smart, he should walk through the unit, ake notes, do a video, and snap pictures to prove everything is in perfect order.
He can then deliver or email the video the the office.
Or, you can do it for him.
Otherwise, on 9 June, the LL may tell a different story.
Document EVERYTHING, keep your proof, just in case.
