Second, I have no idea what you're contemplating. It sounds like you're thinking about mailing yourself a letter with the return address being "[fake name], [fake address]" and the address being "[your real name], [your real address]."

Is that what you're talking about, why on Earth would you do that, and what legal issue do you think it raises (you obviously can do it)? If that's not what you intended to ask, what are you talking about?

Yeah, that's what he's asking. The "why" is that some entity is requiring a piece of mail addressed & sent to him in order to prove his home address.

There was a time long ago when it was popular to save the cost of a stamp by putting the recipient's name and address as the return address. The post office returned the mail to sender for lack of postage so it actually got to the intended recipient for free.

The post office eventually caught on and announced it would no longer send mail back if it didn't have postage.

How in the WORLD would we know? Perhaps it got lost. Perhaps it got stolen. Perhaps the postal carrier broke a leg and the delivery is delayed.
