LLC website

I am starting a simple website that the intent is just to play around and maybe make a small amount of money with google ad sense. I was thinking of creating an LLC primarily for legal protection, secondary to write off expenses against any profits. Two fold question:

1. Is LLC appropriate for something like this (more of a hobby, with exploration into potential online business).

2. Being online - should I create the LLC in the state I live in (Illinois) or should I pick somewhere with better protection (Delaware or Nevada).
