Liens on homes

Hello,

I live in a subdivision that decided to form an association two years ago and demands homeowners to pay $200.00 per year to the association. I have paid the dues, but many others in the subdivision haven't. I'm starting to think that the association is not a productive group and they have threatened property owners with liens if they don't pay their annual dues. I'm questioning their existance and don't like their threats.

I have never signed anything, or agreed to any of their policies. They are basically four people in the subdivision with nothing else better to do than to police others. Can they really place a lien on someone's home? They don't have any contracts or things agreed to by both parties.

I'm considering not paying them next year because I fear that my money isn't being well spent and that I don't trust the people involved. It's a shame it has to be this way, but they have upset quite a few in our subdivision. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Todd
