I am a dj and part of what I do is to create cheer music mixes for cheer competitions. I get paid by the hour and I use popular songs on the radio to create my mixes with. My question is, do i need some sort of license for using other peoples songs? and if I do, where do I go to get such license? thank you

If you use music that is copyrighted for your profit, you're darn tooting you need to pay the various agencies BMI and ASCAP being the two largest that I know about. I don't care, OP, but BMI and ASCAP are very touchy about proper licensing and use of the music they manage for their artists.

ASCAP:

There you go, there might be others.
Just to e safe, after you make those arrangements, you might ask both of them are there others you need to reach out to for licensing.
Good luck...
