I'm new here.
I would like to legally change my name. There is no form in the state of Kansas to fill out, so I had to type up my own petition. I turned in the petition to the district court yesterday and they gave me a date for the hearing, but the assistant told me that there are things I need to do before the hearing. She said she could not tell me what they were because she is not an attorney. Attorneys in my area want $500-$600, which unfortunately I don't have. Does anyone here know what I need to do before the hearing so that the judge would grant the name change? Please let me know. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
