Hello all i have a couple questions about the Legal age of consent and the three year law.
You see my friend just started dating this girl who is only seventeen years of age and he is 23 years of age but she Say's she will be 18 in 9 months.
They have "NOT" Agreed to have sex or have made any agreements to it. How ever they have made arrangements to meet in September when she turns Eighteen. And i just have a couple questions regarding this matter.

1st. Is it legal for my Friend to even date this girl considering she is only Seventeen?

2nd. Is it illegal for a 23 year old to date a girl that is only Seventeen years of age? Even though she will turn Eighteen in 9 months. And what are the Laws regarding this matter in the State of Illinois?

Could my Friend be brought up on Charges? Thanks for you're time.

The age of consent in Illinois is 17. That means he can date her, have sex with her, anything he wants- without fear of statutory rape charges.

HOWEVER- Since she is still a minor, if her parents have a problem with your friend they could have the police investigate and possibly charge your friend with "contributing to the delinquincy of a minor."

As far as the contributing to the delinquincy of a minor charge, if your friend has no actual contact with the 17 year old until she is 18 it will be hard to prove. The police usually try to make this charge stick by seeing if you showed a minor pornography or provided drugs or alcohol to the minor. That means no sending inappropriate photos to this girl to "let her know what she is in for" when she turns 18.

Bottom line- your friend should probably find a girl closer to his age so this is not an issue. If he simply can't connect with someone who has graduated from high school, tell him he can convince an 18 year old just as easy as a 17 year old that he's not a loser.
