Rent, Utilities Late fee for rent

I am currently recieving section 8 housing assistance, I only pay 30.00 a month and section 8 pays the rest. Last month because of the holiday my rent was a few days late and now am being charged 70.00, 50.00 for being late and 10.00 for each additional day, is this legal? It seems to be a bit much. Any information anyone could give me would be great, Thanks

Read your lease. The answer is usually yes.

Late means late.

Your lease describes the exact costs associated with being late.

If it was due on the 3rd and paid on the 5th, it is late.

I suggest you pay it.

After all, you only pay $30.

If you don't pay it, you might face eviction proceedings!
