Landlord not returning phone calls for reference check for new residence

I am horrified, after weeks of looking for the perfect place for my family, I find it. Only problem is, my new landlord started the screening on Monday and now it's thursday,and my current landlord won't awnser her phone or return calls to the screening company. I know for a fact she has been in her office, because someone in the company told me. Could it be that she is trying to keep me from moving out? What can I do about this? My next best idea is to show up in person. I don't want to lose this new place because of her.
