Landlord excessive charges

Me and my husband just moved out of an apartment. We just recieved a collection bill for four hundred dollars over our secruity deposit for cleaning and painting charges. We lived there for four years and left the place spotless. We also didn't get an itemized statement untill a month and a half later when my husband went and got it. We requested a walkthrough and didn't get that either. Do we have a case. If we do should we sue for the secruity deposit and the collection amount. Any help would be appreciated.

You failed to list state but I would suggest you find a Landlord/Tenant Attorney as its very likely you do have a case. Did you take pictures of apartment when you left? Is there even the slightest merit to itemized list. Last and most important the time in which they gave you itemized list is important depending on state
