Computer Crimes, Hacking Keeping private pictures without consent

I took private pictures of my ex girlfriend in my bedroom without her knowledge and the pictures were of her changing clothes. She is long gone and never knew about this. Now these pictures were accidentally discovered by my employer and he is threatening to take legal action. Given that the woman is not involved is there a legal ground for filing criminal charges against me just from the videos. I have never shared or distributed this content to anyone.

If someone is threatening you with legal action I suggest you use your RIGHT to remain silent.

You should also prepare to use some of your money to hire yourself a lawyer, if this does become a legal issue for you.

If someone thinks or believes you're pervert or a freak, there is NOTHING you can say (or should say) to disabuse them of that notion.

You can only further find yourself ensnared in a trap if you respond in anyway, shape, form, or manner.

I suspect the alleged images were stored on your employer's laptop, which is how you were outed.

A company issue device should hold company related information only.

If you MUST capture crude, pornographic images do that on YOUR property, not the property belonging to others which was issued to you for COMPANY business.

Good luck and get help as to why you enjoy taking surreptitious images of without the knowledge and/or permission of people who trust (once trusted) you.

I didnot capture on office property i captured in my home however there was an automatic sync on from my cloud account which copied the files onto my work pc. I really regret my decision of recording and keeping the pictured the camera was actually setup for the dogs but i faltered. Can you please let me know if this activity in itself is illegal without the girl being the witness in the case.

In the US, at the very least you could be fired for having those pictures on the work laptop regardless of how they got there. I don't know what the law is in Austria.
 
Since I typed all this before reading that you're not in California, I'm going to post it anyway. I have no idea if the answers would be the same or different under Austrian law.

You realize that you just confessed to committing a crime, right?

Meaning reporting you to the police? There's no other legal action that your employer (former employer?) could take against you for what you described.

So...now it's not just pictures, it's videos? In any event, yes, the evidence of your criminal activity can be used against you regardless of the involvement of the victim (or lack thereof).
 
I'm confused. How were the photos discovered by your employer and what does your employer have to do with issue altogether? Is your employer threatening to take legal action because the photos were accidentally uploaded in the cloud to your work cloud account? I don't know what legal action your employer can take if there are no damages and they can be easily deleted. I wasn't sure whether your employer was threatening to report you to the police - or to do so unless you provide something to your employer.
 
Thanks - that I read. But I still don't know what legal action the employer was planning to take. For example, were the photos appearing on the desktops of all employees? Or did an IT employee discover them and then the employee was confronted and threatened with what - termination of the employee? A demand for monetary compensation?

You do recall the Anthony Wiener and Huma Abedin photo dust up, right?

My guess is this person's cloud synced his personal and company emails using the same cloud.
Someone in IT saw the "personal" pics and alerted higher ups.

Many people forget to establish distinct cloud syncs for divergent devices.
 
It's difficult to keep track. I have my own laptop and my employer's laptop - too much to carry. I have to be careful to manage these issues. But none of this involved a legal issue and I'm wondering if it is just terminology being confused as a "legal" action, such as termination of an employee.
 
I wouldn't want any of my employees possessing any risque picture, or any personal pictures for that matter, on devices issued by the firm.

I have a strict rule of using firm supplied equipment for firm business only.

I allow employees to use their personal devices over our LAN and/or wifi.

Any violation of that written policy will cause any violator to be terminated summarily, no discussion, just get!
 
I think the employer doesn't care how the pictures got on the work computer, just that they did.

In addition to PHG's theory, of course.
