My son (16), was arrested for shoplifting $89.00 (Alabama), first offense, he's a good student, and a good kid. Was very upset to have hurt me in such a way and wanted to tell his friends never to do anything so stupid. We go to juvenile probation (?), our first contact since the incident, this week. The officer said he would probably be put on probation and released to us and his record expunged when he turned 18 provided he didn't do anything else. Those things never really come off though do they? Will it keep him from going into the profession he had hoped to? Do we need to hire a lawyer. He did it, he isn't trying to say that he didn't.
