I am now on my second year as an Au Pair. My program end date will be on July 12, 2009. I am planning to study here in the US after that. I am not subjected to the 2-year rule, so I guess I can change my status here. I am wondering whether I need to leave the US or not while waiting for my F1 visa. I am planning to attend the Fall semester (September 2009). If my visa ends in July 2009, there will be a 2-month gap before my class starts. Also, will the 30 days grace period (for J1 visa) still be valid even if I apply for a visa change? If I stay after my program ends while waiting for my F1 visa start date, will i still be in legal status here in the US?
