A friend of mine owns a 2 story home that he rents out to multiple tenants (kind of like a hotel). Its a 6 bedroom home and he rent each room out. One of the tenants living there had a violent history (on probation) and has drug problems. He broke into another tenant room and murdered a tenant. Can the victim's family sue the homeowner?

Can he be sued for negligence since the owner did not run a background check? The way the house was ran something was bound to happen. The person could have been a pedofile sharing a house with some childrens.

I answered this question on the other thread. You apparently posted two threads.

One can sue for anything. However your friend is not liable for this kind of security. He does not have to run background checks. I wouldn't be surprised to see a suit against his insurance, but I don't think they will prevail.
