I was stopped for Unsafe Approach to Certain Stationary Vehicles, but no one get injured. I checked this violation is a simple misdemeanor in Iowa, and now I need to pay $195 fine fee. Will they put my record to criminal record? because I see there is a Criminal Surcharge 35% out of total fine that I need to pay, but I am not required to appear in court if I pay for the fine. Please help. I am a F1 student now. In future, does it affect to my IT career in US or green card application or US citizen application.

Find out from the court clerk if you are eligible to take an online traffic school.

If you are, sign up online to take the school, pay a fee (about $40), complete the course, get the certificate, send it to the court, the citation will be dismissed. You'll have no conviction, no record. Yes, it costs a little more money, but saves you money by keeping your record clean.

I have driving license, why do I need to take online traffic school?

I get it. But if I don't, it is considered as criminal record or traffic record?

If you do, why does it matter?

If you choose not to take traffic school, yes, it'll impact your driving record, raise your automobile insurance records, all of which will more negatively impact your record than a simple traffic violation.

It's not the equivalent of a murder conviction, but it will end up costing you money beyond the fines. Plus, these convictions can ding your FICO score. Some potential employers take such things into hiring decisions.
