Is Agent still the agent?

The house went on the market on 6/1. On 8/14, based on inactivity, we requested the agent to withdraw the property and release the listing.
My agent voluntarily signed a withdrawal form on a property he listed for us on 8/9 but did not submit the form to release property - several times I asked what the hold-up was and it was either he was too busy, or forgot, or something else came up, but each time he assured me that he would get it sent in. On 8/18 he contacted me and informed me that he had scheduled a showing for 8/19.
The property is still active, still listed and now we have a showing stemming from the MLS listing that was supposed to have been withdrawn on 8/9.

Is the agent still due commissions if a contract is written based on the 8/19 showing? Is he still representing me if the withdraw order was signed by both of us on 8/9? Is this a piece of leverage for negotiating any/all commissions in the transaction?
