My question:

A good "friend" ("B") and I moved in with his girlfriend into a 2 br/2 ba apartment in Long Beach, CA. My "friend" brought me the lease to sign the night before it was due, a year ago - I have asked for a copy of the lease from B, but he never gave me one. About 3 weeks ago today, B and his GF tell me they turned in our 30-day notice two days prior without consulting me. Since we're cutting our lease a month early, they told me that we were losing our deposit - of which about $300.00 is my share.

Today, I ask the landlord for a copy of the lease and he informs me that he only has "the old copy" between B's GF and her old roommate - that I am not on the lease he has. But, I have been sending my rent checks to his company monthly for the past year. He said that B's GF should have the copy of the "new lease" with my name on it. So, when I asked her for it, she said, "I don't have it. Sorry." I'm so frustrated! I feel taken advantage of and helpless to do anything.

Is there anything I can do? Are there any legal remedies for me?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
