My ex son in law accused me of downloading child porn on my granddaughters iphone who is 7! Anyways, I know when they do the phone search nothing will show up; not at this IP address. However, even after the detective tolde no child porn was found he asked if he could take my computers and I let him. I do watch an adult website once in a while since my wife and I are not intamate. As far as I understand it it's legal as I watched it in private by myself and I even told the detective. My understanding is that child porn is illegal. I haven't thought much of it but I guess the more I thought about it I wanted to ask. My understanding is what I do in the privacy if my own home is my business and the accusation is about an iPhone that had no child porn. What makes this ironic is that it's the accuser that has the record of child sex crimes

Your son in law has a history of child sex crime convictions and he's still allowed around the child?

That aside, what's your question? If it's, "What I do in the privacy of my own home can't be used against me" you'd be wrong.

Ok, it seems there was no child porn on granddaughter's iphone but they took your computers. Generally, the police only get involved if a crime/possible crime has been committed.
Some types of porn are illegal (such as child pornography or sex with animals etc), so the police might/probably would get involved if they discovered that someone was looking at those sites on their computers. Other porn, however, is legal and therefore not a police matter. Therefore, it depends on what they find on your computers whether it is illegal porn.

A minor clarification:

In terms of family law, even legal porn can be used against the parent.

Did anyone other than YOU have access to YOUR computers?

If they did, only God knows what could be on those computers.

Pro, no porn found on granddaughter's iphone. Would looking at porn on computer that is not generally illegal porn be used against OP just because OP has a 7 year old granddaughter?

Or are you saying in some situations legal porn can be held against a parent - that I can understand.

Good point/question, AJ.......................

If they took your computers with your permission rather than seizing them with a warrant, simply go to the agency and demand the immediate return of your property.
If they want to keep it they will have to obtain a warrant.

This might depend on the OP's state. While the police might not be able to search the items without a warrant, they may be under no legal obligation to return the property upon request if it is considered evidence. I don't recall seeing the OP's state in the thread so that might change the process slightly.
