Insurance Rights

Our truck was totaled while being towed home on a trailer. The trailer jack-knifed and rolled. The amount of the truck was paid in full to us by our insurance company. Now our insurance company has a collection agency going after my parents, who were driving the truck/trailer when it jack-knifed, for the full amount that the insurance company paid us. The police report states that no one was at fault in the accident.

Can they do this? What is the purpose of car insurance if the insurance companies can basically sue to get their money back?
