My question is my auto insurance was terminated due to lack of payment, I had lost my job could not pay. Does the insurance company have the right to send me to collections for the remaining policy or is there just a penalty fee that can be paid. They are the ones that terminated my policy. In order to reinstate my auto insurance with them they say I would have to pay 6 mos prior policy.

You don't owe what you did not get. There maybe a portion of a month that they can collect for. But if they cancelled your policy you don't owe for it. Get another company to start a policy for you.
