How to best protect myself while forming a non-profit

I already have a business, which is an LLC in Florida. I want to form a non-profit to work with at-risk children and apply for grants.

What is the best way to form a non-profit that will be working with children to protect myself in the event of injuries, etc.

Should I make the registered agent my LLC business? Can I make a non-profit in Florida an LLC? Thank you in advance!
