how long can the police go before charging me with something...

i heard from someone they only have 30 days before they"cant do anything"

is this true...or is this guy stupid??

cause something happend to me on the fifth of july...and we still havent heard anything..

That guy is stupid.

The police and the District Attorney have up to the last day in the statute of limitations to file charges. This time limit varies by state and by the specific offense - it's usually at least from one to three years.

If you have already been arrested and then released (Bail, citation, etc.), then there might be other time frames that are involved and a local attorney can help you out with those time limits if they apply.
