Assault & Battery How can I protect my mentally handicapped sister

I have a 56 year old mentally handicap sister. The doctors told us she would never have the mental capacity over a 12 to 13 years old. My problem is she is constantly taken advantage of and I am afraid someone is going to get hold of personal information. She is capable of living by herself and is often alarmed that I would put her in a home. I need to know what steps I should take for her future care. Her health is declining and I need to take steps to protect her. I am looking for any steps to make decisions for her.

Does she do any type of work? What type of income does she have? (Is it payable to her?) Who is taking advantage of her?

You might be able to get guardianship over her through the court system.
