background, residential lease, whole house included backyard, front yard and garage parking. Is it legal to install appliance like washer and dryer in the backyard?

Probably not. My guess is that there are city building codes regarding installation. Whatever city you are in, call the building code department for proper installation requirements. And ask your landlord for permission. Don't do it on the sly. It's a good way to get evicted.

Doesn't the house have washer/dryer hookups? If not, why did you rent the place without them when you knew you were going to need them?
