I apologize, but I cannot find the "where you are" selection, but this is regarding Texas, Houston specifically.

My roomate was given a check by another individual, which he took and cashed at a check cashing location (EZ-Cash or something). The check bounced.

1 week ago he started to receive calls from a law office wanting him to pay for the balance, not the writer of the hot check. The lawyer in question has contacted his boss at work, his mother, you get the picture.

Question: Is my roomate legally liable for the amount, and what are the ramifications of not paying? He is currently on a Deferred Adjudication for an unrelated charge, and is serving his probation right now. Can this affect that? Can it be reported as a collection for credit purposes? Finally, what is the legal definition of harassment? What constitutes a harrassing phone call?

Thank You
