My wife had a hospital bill in March 2000 for $2900. My deductible was 3000. Tried to negotiate with the hospital for a lower bill and I would pay in full. They ignored all calls and letters. I mailed a payment of 25 dollars. After going to collections I was advised by the collections agency to pay 1000 dollars and write on the check paid in full and if the hospital cashed it then i'd be settled. This was done via phone. After the hospital cashed the check (in March of 2003), I continued to receive bills for the balance. I tried to contact the collections agency and they wouldn't get back to me. Now a new collections agency has the bill and is trying to collect. What recourses of action do I have?
