I have a medical condition that is going to keep me from working for a significant period of time. In MN, can I quit my job because of medical reasons and still collect unemployment?

That decision is up to state however generally if one quits they cannot collect unemployment. Can't your Doctor place you in disability?

MN does not have a state disability plan and employers are not obligated by law to provide one. You, jacksgal, live in one of only five states that do mandate disability. So there's no guarantee that there is a disability plan for the doctor to put her on.

In most if not all states, sandy, in order to collect unemployment you must be able to work, actively looking for work, and available to work if it is offered. While I cannot say directly to MN since it has been ten years since I had employees there, I will be exceedingly surprised if MN laws are any different. By all means contact the MN UI office and inquire, but don't be surprised if the answer is no.
