My 20 year old son was arrested for shoplifting for the second time. The first time was stupid (he thought his girlfriend had paid for an item and she thought that he had paid for it and he walked out of the store with it in his hand). He was given a ticket, pleaded guilty, did community service and was given probation. No jail time and he was told that he could have his record expunged. This time he did try to take a sweatshirt worth 24.99 from a Target store and was caught. What happens now? He is usually a good kid, a straight A student in college, and scary smart. I have signed him up to speak to a psychiatrist to see why he has done this. I am heartbroken, he is literally my pride and joy. He was accepted at Berkeley and UCLA for his last two years of college. Will he be able to get any financial aid? Might they rescind his acceptance? Will this follow him for the rest of his life? What can I do to help him?
