i am not sure what forum to mention this under but i have a soon to be ex-roommate who is being very verbally abusive and continues to send me harassing emails and text messages even threatening to get me fired. i have done nothing to this person except get my own apartment when she bought a house (so no longer being roommates, me 23 and she being 34).
I have saved some of her voicemails, emails, and text messages..not all of them, but do have people witnesses to her rants and threats. Am i able to file harassment charges or get a restraining order against this person?

and it continues

she is now threatening my job. i just need to know what i can do to ensure she leaves me and my life alone.
my mother suggested a letter from an attorney that she is to have nothing to do with me or be around me, but i want something more official.
any ideas?

Well...if she shows up where you live, call the police and get a CTW on her so you can have her arrested if she comes back. I'm pretty sure you can file a restraining order on her also -- that should keep her from calling and harassing you at work.

it depends on the state where this is happening. In many states one threatening or annoying phone call theoretically can be enough for a complaint of harassment.

hopefully resolved

well i think i have the situation covered.
i called the police and met with an officer to discuss the situation.
He read all her emails, text messages, and heard her voice mails and agreed that she was being completely irrational, unstable, and harassing me.
He said I could do three things:
Change my phone number, email addresses, etc
File a restraining order
Have him call her and see what happens

He called her and told her i was ceasing all communication with her via phone, email, etc and she is being requested to do the same. She didn't understand why he was calling, he reiterated about no communication and told her if she tried to continue to contact me that it could turn into a criminal investigation and lead into harassment charges.

With that being said, I haven't heard from her at all. Now, I'm not sure that will stop her from pulling some crazy stunt, but atleast now I have a police report filed.

The cop did say she sounded have crazy and that he believed that i was right in saying she seemed very unstable.

Thank you for your responses. If she tries anything else, the next step is a restraining order.
