Gun license

Without having your rights restored, you may not. It would be another felony to be in possession of one.

If it was a Florida conviction and it's been eight years since the end of your prison/parole/probation time was up, and you've paid any restitution ordered, and you don't owe more than $1000 in any fines or costs (for anything, not just the felony), then you can apply to the Office of Executive Clemency for the rights restoration. Even then it's not automatic. You'd be well advised to have a lawyer familiar with the process prepare the package. If you screw it up, there's a two year waiting period after denial.

Florida has no law requiring a gun license.

Though, as you have been told, it is illegal for a person with a felony conviction to own or possess a firearm under both Florida state and federal law.
