gaurdianship for niece 18yrs old

I would like to become the gaurdian for my niece who lives in Florida. My sister inlaw past 6 years ago leaveing her with a loser Dad, she stayed with friends of her Moms until graduation which will be end of May. I am taken her to orientation at FSU. We have her all signed up. The problem is I would like to become gaurdian of her. With this she could recieve medical till age 25 thru my work, and also I could oversea her finances. I live in Michigan I don't know where to start. Can she claim me as her gaurdian?

As she is 18 and considered an adult now, you would not be able to apply for guardianship nor would your employer's insurance allow it. She would have had to have been under your care before she turned 18 for your insurance to cover her.
