I am currently living in a apartment where a Fire Sprinkler Line broke and flooded my apartment. My personal belongings did not receive too much damage so I am not writing about that. This happened several days ago and the landlord tore out the carpet and set up 4 fans and a dehumidifier in the apartment. Ever since this happened they do not want to put me in a hotel or move me to a vacant unit, It is extremely uncomfortable, humid, loud, and hard to breath. My young daughter and myself are no sick with upper respiratory infections due to this situation. What are my rights as a tenant? Is the landlord required to give me any compensation? I am thinking about hiring an attorney.

Talk to a couple attorneys, AFTER you read your lease.
You should maintain renters insurance.
You have no statutory rights, per se.
You can ask the landlord to adjust your rent for the days you believe the unit is uninhabitable.
As long as you stay there and tolerate it, it's not uninhabitable.
You could ask your landlord if you can receive any compensation for your trouble as a courtesy.
You might get a $200 or $300 set off against next month's rent.
You are free to discuss this with a few lawyers.
They'll likely require you to pay them $2,000 to $3,000 to retain them, however.
Good luck.
