Naturalization, Citizenship Filing for citizen w/ false information

I have a friend who filed for citizenship and stated that she was single. she is married in another country though and said country does not recognize divorce.
Will this be found out? if so, what kind of repercussions will she be in for?

If she is lucky she would not be caught. US immigration does not go research each individual in their countries of origin. They generally go by information available to US authorities here and sometimes at embassies if they find something suspicious. But if you are caught, you would be denied citizenship and could face federal charges which could lead to deportation. You never want to mess with the feds…………they come down hard like a hammer on you…………..
