Hello, Is it wise to file for bankruptcy which includes reaffirming house and car without attorney. If this is alright to do, what important things should I remember to do?

chp 7

I've done some independent research on this for my own purposes. The first thing you should do is check your state's laws regarding exemptions. In other words, you want to know what you are entitled to keep in terms of assets. Also, you have to pass a means test (make less than x and have less than y) to be eligible for chp 7. Otherwise, it seems chp 7 is a fairly straightforward procedure that doesn't require an attorney.

I would check the state statues too. In Ohio my lawyer told me never to reaffirm anything. Although I forget the reason..think it might have been bc if you have $ problems in the future you lose them.. Not sure. I'd find a lawyer.

Good luck!
